The following Bio was written by a Friend and Book Aurthor Marianne Dyson. Recently my road's been choppy, and while I'm looking for a "job" I'm also looking to build two businesses. One is a Vocal Studio and the other is and Aerospace Business. My Bio follows.
Beatriz “BeBe” Kelly-Serrato is passionate about space and music. She believes that though exploration is not without risk, it is necessary to grow and create a hopeful world for the next generation.
BeBe Kelly was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and moved to Iowa when she was just 6 months old. Raised bilingual in English and Spanish, she moved to Texas at the end of the forth grade. She graduated from Bellaire High School and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology and minored in Geophysics, as well as a Secondary Education Degree in Composite Science Education. BeBe is also an accomplished vocalist and is the independent small business owner of Vocals Unlimited and Principal Consultant of Aerospace – Science Consulting Consortia both DBA companies.
BeBe Kelly-Serrato is the mother of three children Christine Gietzen, an accomplished vocalist and independent small business owner of PridePurrfect Gifts, Matthew Kelly a software engineer, and Stephen Kelly a software technician both sons working for Spectrum Corporation. BeBe Kelly-Serrato has been a single mother since 1988. Her children are all grown and pursuing their individual paths and goals.
BeBe has worked as an IT computer engineering security specialist, scientist, and aerospace engineer. She was most recently the System Engineering Manager for Jacobs Technology, in the Command and Data Handling Avionics Engineering Directorate, providing critical support at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). She directly supported EV15 CDH’s NASA System Manager of the JSC Engineering Avionics Directorate.
Prior to that assignment, Kelly-Serrato was Systems Manager Engineer supporting NASA’s Fight Crew and Thermal Systems, Crew Environmental and Health Systems, and On Orbit Information Systems. She held many positions in the private and government sectors including providing security network infrastructure for the USAF.
One of Kelly-Serrato’s most fascinating projects was to provide communication support for International Space Station astronauts during missions lasting 6 months on average. Her work on the Cisco IP Phone project allows the crews to stay in contact with their families. She especially enjoyed supporting Increment 13 in 2006 because her friend and fellow church member, Jeff Williams, was a member of the crew.
To fulfill her dream of a robust space program that will return humans to the Moon and later Mars, BeBe is an active volunteer in the space community. She served as President and PR Director of the Mars Society of Houston for several years, organizing regular speaker meetings, a popcorn series of lectures at Rice University and JSC, the Mars Close Approach event jointly held with Lunar Planetary Institute and JSC Astronomical Society, and Mars Houston Special award dinners to recognize young leaders. BeBe Kelly-Serrato recently accepted the responsibility to serve as the AIAA Space Operations Technical Chair, she will bring speakers to discuss space operations technical topics for lunch and learns and special AIAA functions to the technical community.
Audiences large and small have heard BeBe talk on such subjects as how maintenance and reliability concepts apply to the space program and also in other facets of our everyday lives. Given the chance, she would love to go into space herself. Perhaps a booking on one of Virgin Galatic’s sub-orbital flights may be in her future. Until then, she is applying her talents in science, engineering, music, and as a caring community leader, to explore and share the wonders the universe and this planet has to offer.
